The law of…

I really liked this post and wanted to share it with you. I have been one such outsider in the workplace and it was so painful that it was a big reason that I became self-employed for the last 25 years of my life. I like to believe that the gifts that I got from such experiences (besides self-employment itself) include helping me to become far more inclusive and compassionate toward those who are lonely, in pain, shy, and not fitting in.

Todays Daily PromptYou have the power to enact a single law. What would it be?

Many years ago I was part of one of those team building exercises.  The exercise on this day was as follows; the group of people all had to hold hands and make a circle, two people were left out of the hand holding circle because they had to try and wiggle their way into the circle.  The hand holders were instructed not to let these two people into the circle at all.
It was terrible to see how upset and almost hysterical the two “outsiders” got when they couldn’t get through into the group.  One or two of the hand holding group disobeyed the instruction of not letting them in (take a guess who?) and let go of the others hand so as to let them in.  I’m not too sure what the object…

As for the quotes, if words such as “always, never, should, and shouldn’t” are off-putting to you–as they often are to me–I invite you consider replacing those types of words in the quotes with ones that better resonate with you. It is not my intention to tell you or anyone else how to live. I have enough of a challenge staying focused on the way I want to live!

Update: You’ve probably noticed that for a writer’s blog there has been remarkably little writing here lately. That is because my non-working time is largely focused on three writing projects that I hope to begin unveiling to you real soon. Thank you for your patience.

In the meantime, I hope you are enjoying the images and quotes in this post and some of my recent ones.

Love,
Russ

“The Best Part Of Waking Up…”

A sweet little boy surprised his grandmother one morning and brought her a cup of coffee. He had made it himself and was so proud. He anxiously waited to hear the verdict on the quality of the coffee.

The grandmother had never in her life had such a bad cup of coffee, and as she forced down the last sip she noticed three of those little green army guys in the bottom of the cup.

She asked “Honey, why would three little green army guys be in the bottom of my cup?”

Her grandson replied, “You know, Grandma, it’s like on TV. The best part of waking up is soldiers in your cup.” – J

Cover Art For My Song “Clyde and I”

Clyde and I CD Cover Art by Josh McGillAttached is the illustration for the cover art for my song “Clyde and I”. I should be able to post the song to you within a week, and with a slight revision it might be the cover art for a possible children’s book that I’m considering.

I thought of the silliest mental image I could come up within about 30 seconds and then wrote the poem/story/song based on it (which took decidedly longer than 30 seconds to write):

“A green giraffe named Clyde who likes to eat bananas while standing on his head in the rain…”

Clyde and I
I went to say “hi” to new neighbors next door
And saw something I’d never seen before
When I say what I saw please don’t laugh
Because what I saw was a green giraffe!
He was standing on his head out in the rain
And the poor wet guy seemed in a lot of pain
His body swayed way up high
And his feet were stuck straight up in the sky!
I just stood there not knowing what to do
As he ate a banana that was bright blue!
I’ve seen yellow bananas, and green ones too,
Even brown and black ones, but never blue!
When I offered my umbrella
To that very soaked fella
He said, “Hi, my name is Clyde.”
Then looked at me with sad, sad, eyes
And with a sigh he said, “Silly me.
“I tried to untie a knot in a tree.
“Now what a pain in the neck I’ve got.
“When I bend it wrong it hurts a LOT.
“So I’m standing on my head to work out the kinks
“He explained between rain-drop blinks
“And I’m eating this banana to keep up my strength
“It takes a lot of muscles for a neck this length”
Then he thought for a while
And on his face grew a great big smile
“Would you please use my neck for a slide?
You’ll help my sore neck muscles if you take a ride
And I’ll bet that if you do
It will be a lot of fun for you.”
I knew right then we’d become good friends!
The End

A Great Legacy

944552_274091976068933_781563105_n

After needing 13 liters of blood for a surgery at the age of 14, a man named James Harrison pledged to donate blood once he turned 18. It was discovered that his blood contained a rare antigen which cured Rhesus disease. He has donated his rare blood nearly 1,000 times and saved over 2 million babies lives.

I saw the above on Facebook. Wow!

I plan to think of this man if I ever again have the thought, “What can one person do?”

Love,
Russ
