I’ve had lots of roles and titles
But of the many things I’ve been called
“Husband”, “Dad”, and “Grandpa”
Are the sweetest of them all!

I just got a chuckle from the comment below from http://www.mikeysFunnies.com and think you may enjoy it too:
I just wish once someone would call me “Sir” without adding, “You’re making a scene.”

It happened without warning
One moment everything was clear
But then my eye glasses broke
And my life became a blur
But my fuzzy vision
Brought into sharp relief
That what happened to my eyes
Can happen to cherished beliefs
Opinions that are built on air
Can come crashing to the ground
And sometimes “facts” no longer fit
When biases are brought down
I know my eyes will once again
Begin to clearly see
With the help of some new glasses
That are a good fit for me
But what about my false beliefs
When they’re lying shattered on the ground?
And the mirages I had counted on
Are nowhere to be found?

Two beautiful messages and reminders from dear friend Gina.

“We come to love not by finding a perfect person, but by learning to see an imperfect person perfectly.” ~Sam Keen (Source: tinybuddha via Facebook)
I love this quote. To me, love is about looking past a person’s human imperfections to the beauty within their heart and spirit, and remaining focused there.

Thanks to billgncs I just discovered Poets Corner. I’ve signed up for, and am following it, but at this point I do not yet know much about it. I plan to list some of my poetry there. It might be an interesting site for those who love reading and/or writing poetry.

This post is dedicated to all who have had someone dear to them choose to turn their back on them and walk away. If you have a hole in your heart that has never quite healed, this post is for you.
About ten years ago my best and closest friend, someone whom I’d known since second grade, completely cut me out of his life without warning. We hadn’t had a fight or even a minor disagreement and I had no clue as to what I had done to cause that reaction. All attempts to find out and apologize were rebuffed.
I had a hole in my heart that wouldn’t heal and my world felt out of balance.
Years later, I ran into one of his brothers and enquired as to how he was doing. His brother said he was going through a divorce, was having a very rough time of it, and could really use a friend.
I went home, picked up the phone, and tried again to reach out to my estranged friend. This time he was receptive, and our friendship resumed. I was able to be there for him when he most needed a friend.
I tell this story because it may offer hope of eventual reconciliation for some. While people are alive, hope has a chance to live on too. And sometimes, timing is everything.
I do not know whether reconciliation will occur in your situation(s), or even whether reconciliation is always best for everyone involved in all situations, but I do know that I wish for happiness and inner peace for you and the one(s) from whom you may be estranged, however that may look for each of you.
With love,
Russ
This poem is dedicated to all who are weary and craving sleep. May you soon enjoy blessed slumber!

The Race
Moving in slow motion
Barely able to think at all
Vision is getting fuzzy
Movements slowing to a crawl
Forgot to turn on the porch light
Struggle to fit my key into the lock
Mutter under my breath
As I fumble in the dark
It’s going to be a slow-motion race
As I stagger through the door
For my head to hit my pillow
Before my face hits the floor.
