Monday Humor

One night a burglar, needing money to pay his taxes, decided to burgle a safe in a mom and pop grocery store.

On the safe door was a note that read “Please don’t use dynamite. The safe is not locked. Just turn the handle.” He was quite pleased with this turn of events so he followed the instructions.

Instantly a heavy sandbag fell on him, the entire store was floodlighted, and alarms started sounding. As the police carried him out on a stretcher, he was heard moaning: “My confidence in human nature has been terribly shaken.”

A Fitting Tribute to a Great Man

Atticus Finch of To Kill a Mockingbird is my favorite book and movie character. He is a model of manhood to me. (And he was created by a woman.)

Atticus was powerfully portrayed by Gregory Peck, who said it was his favorite role of his career.

I just read that Brock Peters read Gregory Peck’s eulogy. Mr.Peters is the actor who played the man Atticus defended in To Kill a Mockingbird.

What  fitting tribute to a great man.

Friday Humor

Mary hated the idea of surgery. So she was very upset when the doctor informed her that she needed a tonsillectomy.

Mary after much deliberation, decided to go ahead and have the procedure.

While she and the nurse were filling out an admission form, she was so nervous she couldn’t think straight or hardly speak. The nurse, being a compassionate sort, patted her hand and said, “Don’t worry. This
is a simple medical procedure, and a problem that can easily be fixed.”

“I am sure you are right. I’m being silly,” Mary said, “Please continue.”

“Good,” the nurse went on, “Now, do you have a living will?”

Storybooks by the Bay

Today was the Author Book Signing portion of Danville’s Storybooks by the Bay exhibit that began today and goes through December 17. The curator asked if she could include   four of my books and four illustrations from them are among those to be featured. I wrote the stories and conceived the characters, and Josh McGill illustrated them adding additional ideas and suggestions for each.

I always enjoy interacting with the children and their parents. There was one little boy who no matter which book the mother suggested always immediately said “no” (and there were probably about sixty books on display from various authors and illustrators.) The mother asked if she could borrow my book titled “Clyde and Hoozy Whatzadingle” and try to read it to him. They went to a bench and she read it to him. I was delighted to see one of my books being read by a mommy to a young child. The child loved it and stayed focused on it from the first page through the ending. When they left, he tightly clutched his new book that had a note I wrote to him, and he wore a big smile on his face.

Dream Meld

It’s happened. Dreams of real life and imagined life via one of my fiction stories joined together into a mind-tripping dream meld last night. I believe I accidentally set myself up for it when I added a brief dream sequence to my story It Was Her Eyes late last night and shortly later went to bed. A Beta Reader had suggested I consider adding a dream sequence (which I think is a cool idea) and when I came up with one that helped the story, I went with it. Then it went with me as I slept. As Spock would say, “Fascinating.”
