Your Creative Superpowers

A dear friend recently wrote that it’s stunning to him how prolific I am. I was both honored and humbled by his comment, and smiled about it because I’m perhaps most stunned of all. Seven years ago I was unaware I had so many things boiling up inside me, or that I’d ever write a book. It always seemed to me it was what some “others” did, those who had that special “something” that I so clearly appeared to lack for the first 55 years or so of my life.

I had the “special sauce” in me and and didn’t even know it. I suspect that we all do, but many of us never discover it, or give up on it before giving it time to grow. I believe it can be a great gift to learn early in life about one’s passion(s) and the gifts for the world that are inside them, especially when they are given the support and encouragement of others.

I’m a late bloomer but I’m blessed with having many amazing people who’ve supported and encouraged me every step, accomplishment, and setback along the way in my great adventure. Thank you to all those of you have done this for me. I’m indeed grateful man.

With love,

Russ

Book Signing and Selling Event Updates

IMG_3800

Day one of the Loma Prieta event went well. I’ve signed and sold a lot of books today and talked with many delightful readers. Above is a photo of my set-up. Note the “books for grown-ups section” on the white tablecloth is rapidly catching up with the “books for children” section on the solid red table. I was unable to bring quite a few of my other titles because I’d already sold out of them at earlier events or I didn’t have room for them in the space allotted.

With Love,

Russ

Kids Say the Funniest Things

KIDS SAY THE FUNNIEST THINGS
“Close the curtains,” requested a tot, sitting in a pool of bright light. “The sun’s looking at me too hard.”
Someone asked a youngster when he would turn 6. He replied, “When I’m tired of being 5.”
Seeing her first hailstorm, a 3-year-old exclaimed, “Mommy, it’s raining dumplings!”
As her gramma frantically waved away a pesky fly with a white dishtowel, the granddaughter observed, “Maybe he thinks you’re surrendering.”
When  a child heard that her aunt just had a baby and it looked like her uncle, she said, “You mean he has a mustache?”
While shampooing her son, 4, the mom noted his hair was growing so fast he’d soon need it cut. He replied, “Maybe we shouldn’t water it so much.”
When complimented on her vocabulary, the 5-year-old nonchalantly responded, “I have words in my head I haven’t even used yet.”
His mom informed Brian that she was going outside to get a little sun. “But Mommy,” he gulped, “You already have a little son — me!”
When a boy reported two look-alike classmates at school, his parents said they were probably twins. The next day, he came home all bubbly and said, “Guess what? They’re not only twins, they’re brothers!”

A teen-aged girl with spiked hair, lip rings and baggy clothes was overheard telling a friend, “I don’t really like to dress like this, but it keeps my parents from dragging me everywhere with them.”

Mental Strength

The strong young man at the construction site was bragging that he could outdo anyone in a feat of strength. He made a special case of making fun of one of the older workmen.
After several minutes, the older worker had had enough. “Why don’t you put your money where your mouth is,” he said. “I’ll bet a week’s wages that I can haul something in a wheelbarrow over to that outbuilding that you won’t be able to wheel back.”
“You’re on, old-timer,” the braggart replied. “Let’s see what you got.”
The old man reached out and grabbed the wheelbarrow by the handles. Then, nodding to the young man, he said, “All right. Get in.”ap-x-90-478899-unsplash

The Sound of Class

This story was sweet music to my heart. When their rivals were involved in a major bus crash, the WSU marching band learned and played their rival’s school fight song. Way to go, WSU.

I look forward to my visit to Quimby Middle School this afternoon to talk with students who are writing a novel this month for National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo). I love meeting fellow writers and answering questions they may have about every aspect of writing and self-publishing.
