I recently posted a children’s story/poem titled “Clyde and I”.
I shared it with My Beloved, some parents and grandparents of young children, and my song co-writer, and got an unexpectedly enthusiastic response from them.
My song co-writer (who has composed a bunch of children’s songs) liked it so much that he didn’t suggest any changes to my lyric. He plans to compose music for it within a week or so.
One thing I wasn’t surprised about was that the parents and grandparents said the story needs illustrations. I started looking for an illustrator and so far four have responded.
Ideally, I will pick one, and if the work they do fits the story, I may present a sample of the story and illustrations to agents and/or publishers of children’s books. I may also include the song, as I think that could make an enticing package for parents and grandparents.
As always, time will tell, but in the meantime, I’m learning a lot and having loads of fun on this adventure.
And as I’ve said before, if I’m having fun, I’ve already won.
(I like the message and sound of the last sentence, and wouldn’t be surprised if in the not-too-distant future it inspires a post and possibly other writing projects).
Love,
Russ

I will have my artist daughter ping you. http://dontwaittonight.wordpress.com/
Thank you, Bill. I look forward to hearing from her.

She’s in France now, but one thing I have learned is to never anticipate what an artist is going to do. π
LOL! Thank you for the additional info and the heads-up.
hopefully you will hear from her in a couple days.
No worries. Even if this project doesn’t line up, there are likely to be other opportunities to attempt to work together in the future.
yes, life is full of adventures π
What excitement… hope all turns out how you want it to…

Oh Russ! That is the best news ever! May the world get to hear your heart through Clyde and I! I know every child, parent, grandparent and teacher will receive unimaginable blessing and delight from your work. Sharing in your joy dear friend. And so very proud of what you are doing. Every single time. Keep us posted. To success already! Sharon
I read your post at the perfect moment, my dear friend. I was reeling from a series of potentially project-ending setbacks that all hit in the last two hours. So I decided that I needed to focus on something else for awhile. That’s when I saw your comment. As always, your message and spirit warmed my heart and brightened my day. Thank you for your inspiring friendship and support, Sharon. And for the reminder about success already!
Russ
I was thinking the exact same thing about you as I was reading the message you had written to me on my blog earlier. How it brought with it such unconditional and generous support and friendship. How it matters that a few lines written with sincerity and kindness are a balm to the soul.
May doors open. May you flow like the river and where it takes you. You really already have it all. For your lifework is already in the millions of countless acts of kindness planted in hearts and lives over the ages. This is just one more. And there will be plenty more to come.
I breathe in your words and my heart expands. My spirit soars as though a child laughing and playing with a close friend on a care-free summer’s day.
May I be or become all you believe I am, and do and create all that you believe I’m capable.
The mere words “Thank you” do not come close to the level of gratitude I feel for having you in my life. But they are what I’m coming up with at this moment.
Thank you, Sharon.
