Another beautiful example of the power of dreams combined with the dedication to make them come true.

the palais idéal in hauterives, france is a unique structure. it is made entirely out of stones that postman, ferdinand cheval collected on his mail route.
one night, cheval dreamed about building a palace. he thought nothing of this dream for years, until one day in the spring of 1879, when his foot caught on an unusual-looking rock during his postal route. the rock was so fascinating to cheval that he took it home to admire it. it also gave him an idea.
for the next 33 years, cheval continued picking up more stones during his postal route, first putting them in his pockets, then graduating to a basket, and finally using a wheelbarrow. each one of the stones was hand-selected by cheval to play a part in the construction of his dream palace.
for more than three decades, cheval spent his nights building his home by the light of an…

I have known and loved this creation for many years. It speaks to me in ways few things ever do. I heard that she came back from a party displeased with the content of the party chatter and wrote this in response.

I am not familiar with Oriah Mountain Dreamer’s poetry, but, when I found this poem, it reached out and called me.
What questions do I ask myself, that I cannot answer. There is an eloquence in those questions that leads me to new questions, without knowing the answers. When I sense the world in one way or another, I am unable to sense it in any other way.
What if I live the wildness of life and I allow myself some abandon, not carelessness? I can dance with that wildness and not care about what others may think, hopefully making the world a better place.
When we open our hearts to the other, their standing in life is about who they are as a person rather than what identifies them: their job, their age, where they live, etc. When we open our hears to the other, it is an invitation…

I live in Silicon Valley and many of my friends are techies, so this reblog is in honor of them.

A young Programmer and his Project Manager board a train headed through the mountains on its way to Wichita. They can find no place to sit except for two seats right across the aisle from a young woman and her grandmother. After a while, it is obvious that the young woman and the young programmer are interested in each other, because they are giving each other looks. Soon the train passes into a tunnel and it is pitch black. There is a sound of a kiss followed by the sound of a slap. When the train emerges from the tunnel, the four sit there without saying a word. The grandmother is thinking to herself, “It was very brash for that young man to kiss my granddaughter, but I’m glad she slapped him.” The Project manager is sitting there thinking, “I didn’t know the young tech was brave enough to kiss…

ST. PATRICK’S DAY GROANERS
Q: Why do people wear shamrocks on St. Patrick’s Day?
A: Regular rocks are too heavy.
Q: Why can’t you borrow money from a leprechaun?
A: Because they’re always a little short.
Q: How can you tell if an Irishman is having a good time?
A: He’s Dublin over with laughter!
Q: What would you get if you crossed Christmas with St. Patrick’s Day?
A: St. O’Claus!
Q: Are people jealous of the Irish?
A: Sure, they’re green with envy!
Q: What would you get if you crossed Quasimodo with an Irish football player?
A: The Halfback of Notre Dame!
Q: Why are leprechauns so hard to get along with?
A: Because they’re very short-tempered!
“I married an Irishman on St. Patrick’s Day.”
“Oh, really?”
“No, O’Reilly!”
I got a call yesterday from Denis Loiseau the songwriter who four or five years ago was the one who invited me to co-write my first song with him. We wrote several songs together and enjoyed working with each other but over time drifted in different directions creatively, me towards becoming an author and him toward writing theme- and mood-based pieces for Hollywood, TV, and the theater. He is quite talented in a very competitive field. In the intervening years, he wrote a song that was used in a musical production in San Francisco, and another that a major not-profit agency uses as their theme song.
The phone call he made to me yesterday was to invite me to consider co-writing with him some theme- and mood-songs (for example the kind heard in the background in movies to evoke certain feelings). That sounded interesting to me so we’re off and running. In fact, I’m on fire. I’ve already written the first draft for much of one song entitled “Let Me Help You Cry”, and parts of two others including a love song which might be titled “You Electrify Me” or “You Light Me Up.”
And so another adventure begins…
Below is a first draft of part of the song “Let Me Help You Cry.” It is likely to be greatly improved if we move forward with co-writing it:
Let Me Help You Cry
Verse 1:
The raging storm inside you that you fear
Will drown you in a flood of tears
If you ever let your feelings show
There’s nowhere else for it to go.
I know you’re brave and I know you’re strong
But you’ve been treading water far too long.
Your dammed up feelings are pulling you down
And I won’t sit here and watch you drown.
The longer you wait the stronger it grows.
Fight the fear and let yours tears flow.
We’ll do it together I’ll help you see
No storm can stop you and me.
Chorus:
We’ll get through the flood, outlast this storm.
Make it to a shore that’s safe and warm.
Let all the sadness and the pain
Fall like rain
From your beautiful eyes
Let me help you cry.

I recall reading something about Steve Jobs last words being, “Wow! Wow!” I’d love my last word to be “WAHOO!” and to die with a huge smile and look of awe-filled wonder on my face.
