I Got A Call Yesterday

I got a call yesterday from Denis Loiseau the songwriter who four or five years ago was the one who invited me to co-write my first song with him. We wrote several songs together and enjoyed working with each other but over time drifted in different directions creatively, me towards becoming an author and him toward writing theme- and mood-based pieces for Hollywood, TV, and the theater. He is quite talented in a very competitive field. In the intervening years, he wrote a song that was used in a musical production in San Francisco, and another that a major not-profit agency uses as their theme song.

The phone call he made to me yesterday was to invite me to consider co-writing with him some theme- and mood-songs (for example the kind heard in the background in movies to evoke certain feelings). That sounded interesting to me so we’re off and running. In fact, I’m on fire. I’ve already written the first draft for much of one song entitled “Let Me Help You Cry”, and parts of two others including a love song which might be titled “You Electrify Me” or “You Light Me Up.”

And so another adventure begins…

Below is a first draft of part of the song “Let Me Help You Cry.” It is likely to be greatly improved if we move forward with co-writing it:

Let Me Help You Cry

Verse 1:

The raging storm inside you that you fear

Will drown you in a flood of tears

If you ever let your feelings show

There’s nowhere else for it to go.

I know you’re brave and I know you’re strong

But you’ve been treading water far too long.

Your dammed up feelings are pulling you down

And I won’t sit here and watch you drown.

The longer you wait the stronger it grows.

Fight the fear and let yours tears flow.

We’ll do it together I’ll help you see

No storm can stop you and me.

Chorus:

We’ll get through the flood, outlast this storm.

Make it to a shore that’s safe and warm.

Let all the sadness and the pain

Fall like rain

From your beautiful eyes

Let me help you cry.

With love, always with love,

Russ
