Have you ever thought of yourself as magical?Go ahead, take a few minutes to do so.  You don’t know how? That’s okay, no worries.  I’ll show you. Right now take a little time and consider the possibilities, potentials and maybe’s in your life. Or go all out here, in the now of things, and dream. Dream big dreams. Use your imagination. It’s there for a purpose. Just imagine what might be.

I’m perfectly seriousbecause I know locked inside each of us is the desire to make a difference for personal self fulfillment. We may not know exactly how to make this happen but we all feel this way.

You see, here’s the thing: As it turns out imagination is the first step in making something seemingly unbelievable (to you) or impossible happen. Yes, it is true. First something will occur within your immediate environment and/or you come…

Life’s Best Moments

Life’s best moments for me are when my heart is touched by the words and actions of others and I feel a universal connection. I’m grateful to all who have created such moments for me, and to all who would if given the opportunity.

Colossal Kindness from a Tiny Town

I believe I may have read at least part of this story before, but I enjoyed (re-?)reading it so much a few minutes ago that I wanted to share it with you. It’s long by social media standards, but I found it well worth my time.

Russ

Four Book Project Updates

I just finished writing the text for a book titled, Stop Peeing in the Kitty Litter! It’s a humorous and heartwarming non-fiction piece that gives readers useful information for dealing with children from toddler-age through late teens. It will also be a fun walk down Memory Lane for those whose children have already left the nest. My editor is backlogged right now but she’ll begin editing it on October 2nd. I plan to have a cover reveal next week.

I’m nearly done writing the my non-fiction project titled, Who Would Do Something Silly Like That? It’s a funny and heartwarming book about marriage that containpractical ideas for strengthening and maintaining relationshipsThe final draft should be done by the end of this week and it’s queued up with the editor for work early next month. The cover reveal is likely to occur within two weeks.

I’ve come up with a working title for my non-fiction book Don’t Lick the Dog! The topic is grandparenting. (Spellcheck says that’s not a word, but it should be since parenting is a word):  It will be filled with humorous and heartwarming stories about grandchildren and offers helpful grandparenting suggestions and insights. I’ve decided I don’t yet have enough quality material for this book (after all, our oldest grandchildren is only about 4-1/2 years old, but with four–soon to be five–grandchildren it shouldn’t take long!) I’ve put this project on the back-burner for a while.

At about 13,500 words, I’ve (hopefully only temporarily) set aside It Was Her Eyes my fiction action/adventure/thriller/fantasy/western novella which is likely to become a 20,000 word novella.  My interest in the project had waned a bit as the three above projects burned brighter in my mind. I hope to rekindle the flame for this project in a week or two.

With Love,

Russ

miami metrozoo flamingos, riding out hurricane andrew

How do you keep a flamingo flock safe in a major storm?

This past weekend, many Americans got ready for Hermine, but odds are that very few people had to stuff 30 flamingos in the bathroom of the Miami Metrozoo.

Back in 1992, in the leadup to Hurricane Andrew, Ron Magill, the Miami Zoo’s assistant curator, had to help get an entire zoo ready for disaster.

He says now, “I thought we were doing all this for nothing.” But he and his team ran around doing what they could, making sure all of their furry, feathery and scaly charges were securely housed and fed.

Some of the bird exhibits weren’t likely to live up to the task. Most days, the flamingos loved being outside, sunning themselves in their outdoor lake. As soon as they were sure Andrew would make landfall, Magill and the other…

The Live Internet Radio Interview was a Blast!

Today’s live interview on Tell Me a Story with host Annette Rochelle Aben was a ton of fun. The thirty minutes seemed like five. We had so much more to talk about that Annette invited me do another one. It is scheduled for 10:30 AM Pacific on Friday, November 4th. I’ll provide more details as I get them.

If you missed today’s interview, a podcast of the conversation is available. Annette provided a link in the comments section below this post.

Stop Peeing in the Kitty Litter!

Three of my latest writing projects are non-fiction books for grownups featuring humorous and heartwarming stories about parenting, marriage, and grandparenting (spell-check indicates that “grandparenting” isn’t a word, but I like it and figure if it gets used enough the word-cops will eventually have to bless it. My optimism may be unfounded as that ain’t worked out real well with the word “ain’t.”)

I want the titles of these three books to convey the humor that will be in each of them. The working title for the book with true parenting stories is Stop Peeing in the Kitty Litter!

What do you think of that as a title?

With Love,

Russ
