Seeing Rightly With Our Heart

“It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; What is essential is invisible to the
eye.” –Antoine de Saint Exupery

I believe there is much truth and wisdom in those words.

I saw the above quote at HeroicStories.com. I like the quote and the site.

What A Great Idea!

I am often touched when I see “Welcome Home” video’s of mlitary servicepeople coming home from long deployments. I’ve just discovered a blog/site that is devoted to sharing such joyous moments with the world: WelcomeHomeBlog.com. What a great idea! To the creator of that blg and to all of the servicepeople and families who sacrifice so much: THANK YOU!

My First Grandchild Was Born Yeserday

My first grandchild was born yesterday. Everyone is doing fine. I spent most of the day at the hospital yesterday to let an exhausted new mommy and daddy sleep and to spend as much time as possible holding and beholding the miracle that is my grandson. I am indeed a very grateful and lucky man, and very proud of all three of them.

To all mothers everywhere: Thank you for all that you’ve gone through to bring a new life into the world.

Speaking of Daring Adventures…

Our eldest son and his wife are expecting their first child. I believe that having a baby is one of the greatest and most daring adventures of all. Their son’s due date is TODAY. It will be my wife’s and my first grandchild. To say that we’re waiting anxiously for THE phone call would be a gross understatement (though we know we could be waiting for quite awhile, perhaps days longer).

Life is Either a Daring Adventure…

I just saw a Nike internet commercial that included several quotes about living life to the fullest. Here are three of them:

Life is either a daring adventure or nothing at all. –Helen Keller

Action expresses priority. –Ganhdi

You only live once but if you do it right once is enough. –Mae West

I suspect that each of them would have good reason to know of which they speak. ;-D!

Amazing Doggie Dancer

The URl below is to a video displaying a dog doing a very impressive 3-minute dance routine–on its HIND legs. WOW! The dog is a much better dancer than me–though I admit that isn’t saying much (if you’ve ever seen me “dance” you know what I mean)–but the dog was able to get down a long routine and do it standing upright. It’s defintely worth watching if you too are a dog or animal fan.

Will Love for Food

I recently saw a photo of a large dog with with friendly but sad old eyes, and much white on its face. It wore a sign made of cutout cardboard which was hanging from its neck. The message on it looked like it had been lovingingly hand-written with crayons. It read:

“Will (Heart) for food”.

My heart went out to that dog, to the person who created that sign, and to everyone who could use more love and food in their lives. May we all get plenty of both, nourishment for the body and the spirit, and give the same.

A Hero of Humanity

I just saw a blurb about a Chinese cop that while on duty and in uniform breastfed two hungry baby earthquake survivors that weren’t her own. I don’t know what her boss thinks about her actions, but to me she is a Hero of Humanity.

What Disability? This Girl Has a Super-Ability!

“A first-grader who was born without hands has won a national penmanship award”, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

“Annie Clark, a 7-year-old at Wilson Christian Academy in West Mifflin, Pa., got a trophy and $1,000 as one of two national winners of the Nicholas Maxim Special Award for Excellent Penmanship from the Zaner-Bloser language arts and reading company.”

The article also mentioned that she learned of the natonal award for children with disabilities by winning an award for penmanship beating all of the students at her school–to me that is an extra-amazing feat.

She grasps the pencil between her arms to create her beautiful work, and has warmed the hearts of many with her super-abilities in the face of daunting challenges.
