Great Ideas!

I love to discover ways that people creatively make life better for themselves and others. Here are two that I just learned about:

Accessible Playgrounds
I just saw a wonderful photo that shows two children in wheelchairs happily playing on a swing swaying back and forth. Someone created a swing set with platforms that children in wheelchairs can roll and attach onto so they can be pushed by an adult or older child. Now they too can experience the joy of swinging! Creative kindness in action!

A Different Angle
The state of California has tried a variety of things to flag underage people who are trying to buy alcohol from harried grocery and liquor store clerks, but none appeared to work very well–until now. And what a simple solution it was! The driver’s licenses for underage people are now printed in portrait format versus the landscape format that everyone elses’ is. Both types of license remain the same size and shape but are now just read from an entirely new angle. Well done!

I like it when someone speaks a truth that is also a different way of viewing things. The first part of the quote I’m reblogging falls into this category to me.

Uh, Oh

A friend from high school sent this joke to me and I thought you’d enjoy it too:

Trading Gas Caps

I have a friend who filled his car with gas at a self-service gas station. After he had paid and driven away, he realized that he had left the gas cap on top of his car. He stopped and looked and, sure enough, it was lost.

Well, he thought for a second and realized that other people must have done the same thing, and that it was worth going back to look by the side of the road since even if he couldn’t find his own gas cap, he might be able to find one that fit. Sure enough, he hadn’t been searching long when he found a gas cap. He tried it on, and it went into place with a satisfying click.

“Great,” he thought, “I lost my gas cap, but I found another one that fits.

And this one’s even better because it locks…”

Thorns and Roses

Don’t be upset that rosebushes have thorns; rejoice that thorn bushes have roses.

Whole Universes of Life & Activity Inside Us

Be gentle with yourself. “You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars. In the noisy confusion of life, keep peace in your soul.” – Max Ehrmann

This sounds like good advice to me. From what I’ve seen of the human body at microbiological levels, we literally have whole galaxies of activities swirling and whirling inside each of us. So I believe that we are indeed not only a child of the universe, our bodies contain whole universes of life and activity.
