How one man with big trouble who did what he had to do without complaint inspired a town. This story delighted me.

The second book of my tales of the old west is scheduled for release next week the week of August 20. It’s titled A Bullet in the Neck.  Here’s a taste of the stories featured in it:

Gold Fever

Greed leads to violence, betrayal, and death, as honest, hard-working gold miners discover a traitor in their midst when they must confront a killer and his vicious gang of murdering thieves.

Big Dream Ranch

An ambitious man works to overcome many obstacles as he works to make his big dream come true, unaware that he has yet to face the greatest obstacle of all.

Mary’s Medicine

A dying man is awakened by a gun-toting stranger in his bedroom who has a terrible story to tell that might just save his life.

Annie Davenport and Dr. Hartlee’s Miracle Headache Cure

A series of tragedies push a young woman toward a terrible choice: Marry a man she detests to save her ranch and ensure the survival of her young son and herself, or risk everything to keep her freedom—and her time is running out.

Family Fun from Redwoods to MD

We recently camped in the redwoods with one of our children’s families, and then flew to Maryland to enjoy time with another’s. The top photo shows grandson Thomas making a lantern from a flashlight and a plastic bottle filled with water. Grandchildren Zachary, Alexander, and Raiden enjoy bubble popping time, and dance time with Mommy. The  IMG_3656

The twins and Daddy love to work on projects together.

“What I’ve Learned”

THINGS GETS BETTER WITH AGE
I’ve learned that I like my teacher because she cries when we sing “Silent Night.” Age 5
I’ve learned that our dog doesn’t want to eat my broccoli either. Age 7
I’ve learned that when I wave to people out in the country, they stop what they are doing and wave back. Age 9
I’ve learned that just when I get my room the way I like it, Mom makes me clean it up again. Age 12
I’ve learned that silent company is often more healing than words of advice. Age 24
I’ve learned that brushing my child’s hair is one of life’s great pleasures. Age 26
I’ve learned that wherever I go, the world’s worst drivers have followed me there. Age 29
I’ve learned that if someone says something unkind about me, I must live so that no one will believe it. Age 30
I’ve learned that there are people who love you dearly but just don’t know how to show it. Age 42
I’ve learned that you can make someone’s day by simply sending them a little note. Age 44
I’ve learned that the greater a person’s sense of guilt, the greater his or her need to cast blame on others. Age 46
I’ve learned that children and grandparents are natural allies. Age 47
I’ve learned that no matter what happens, or how bad it seems today, life does go on and it will be better tomorrow. Age 48
I’ve learned that singing “Amazing Grace” can lift my spirits for hours. Age 49
I’ve learned that you can tell a lot about a man by the way he handles these three things: a rainy day, lost luggage, and tangled Christmas tree lights. Age 51
I’ve learned that keeping a vegetable garden is worth a medicine cabinet full of pills. Age 52
I’ve learned that regardless of your relationship with your parents, you miss them terribly after they die. Age 53
I’ve learned that making a living is not the same thing as making a life. Age 58
I’ve learned that life sometimes gives you a second chance. Age 62
I’ve learned that you shouldn’t go through life with a catcher’s mitt on both hands. You need to be able to throw something back. Age 64
I’ve learned that if you pursue happiness, it will elude you. But if you focus on your family, the needs of others, your work, meeting new people, and doing the very best you can, happiness will find you. Age 65
I’ve learned that whenever I decide something with kindness, I usually make the right decision. Age 66
I’ve learned that everyone can use a prayer. Age 72
I’ve learned that even when I have pains, I don’t have to be one. Age 74
I’ve learned that every day you should reach out and touch someone. People love that human touch – holding hands, a warm hug, or just a friendly pat on the back.  Age 76
I’ve learned that I still have a lot to learn. Age 78

What I’ve learned: People all over the world enthusiastically help those with kind and gracious hearts, and often even those without such attributes.

TM Blayte’s Debut Novel is Coming!

I had the pleasure of reading an advanced draft of TM Blayte’s debut novel titled Until We Are Free. I enjoyed it. If the description below sounds like the kind of stories you like to read, you might want to give TM’s new book a try.

With love,

Russ

“Nyl Jayms is tasked with kidnaping the Elder princess, to force her brother, the king, to negotiate with humans. The alternative is a war that could lead to the annihilation of both humans and Elders.

A Rider Council faction, led by Nyl’s father, is opposed to any negotiations. They will do anything, including sabotaging his assignment, to trigger a war.

Nyl and his team have to outsmart the king’s elite Royal Guard, to get to the princess, and somehow stay one step ahead of the faction opposed to negotiations. Everyone will be forced to re-evaluate ideology they were raised with, as an impending war looms ever closer.

Join these  elite rebel warriors on a journey of war, betrayal, and political scheming, in Until We Are Free. In this debut novel from TM Blayte, faces of friends, family, allies and enemies will blur. Loyalties will be tested, until the determination to be free becomes the only thing that matters. After all, does one person’s freedom mean another person’s oppression?” TM Blayte Unsilenced

Until We Are Free will be released by Alban Lake Publishing on 01 August 2018.07.08. You can now pre-order the print copy here. The e-book will be available on the release date. Stay tuned for news about the audio book.
