Creating Joy

“Life will bring you pain all by itself. Your responsibility is to create joy.” ~Milton Erickson (Source: tinybuddha)

I really like this quote. It makes a lot of sense to me. I hope that often when I create joy, I do so for my loved ones and others as well as myself.

Joy shared is a glorious thing.

Russ

Weighty History Humor

Now, for something lighter, and heavier… ;-D!

A tour bus arrived at Runnymede, England. The guide asked the tourists to
gather around and then said, “You are standing on the very spot where the
barons forced King John to sign the Magna Carta.”

A man in the group asked, “When did that happen?”

“1215,” the guide answered.

The tourist looked at his watch, “Rats!” he said, “Missed it by half an
hour.”

Hello all!  How was everyone’s weekend?  I spent mine wasting WAY too much time on Pinterest and running errands with Captain America…all in all I’d say it was pretty successful 😉 Plus, while I was putzing around the internet, I stumbled on this article from last year, I thought it was pretty touching, and thought I’d share.

So here’s a cute little love story for you this Monday:

Within 12 hours of graduating high school, Norma and Gordon Yeager were married. That was in 1939.

72 years later the couple was still inseparable, even after a devastating car accident left them hospital bound.  Sharing a room, they lay together in their hospital beds holding hands, until Gordon passed away in October of last year.  But what happened next surprised everyone.  Although he was no longer breathing, Gordon’s monitor still showed a heart beat. Nurses quickly realized that his body was picking…

Back In the Flow

When I make plans
Life often intrudes
But I believe that
Is just an excuse

When I focus on things
That help me to grow
I find all kinds of time
To get back in the flow

I make time for laughter
Or I’d be sad indeed
And more time for loved ones
Especially those in need.

Not-So-Troubling Blessings

“Gratitude can turn a negative into a positive. Find a way to be thankful for your troubles, and they can become your blessings.” Unknown (Source: Let’s Be Positive Together)

I’m a firm believer in the wisdom of the above words, as I have found them to be true in my life.

The Heart Would Never Understand

I just read a quote that I hadn’t read before from Gina’s wonderful http://professionsforpeace.com/2013/02/08/raising-energy-towards-peace/ that I really like and that led to this post. (The best quotes get me to thinking, feeling, and doing.)

Someone asked the Dalai Lama, “Why didn’t you fight back against
the Chinese?” The Dalai Lama said with a gentle smile, “Well, war is obsolete, you know.” Then, his face grave, he said,

“Of course the mind can rationalize fighting back… but the heart, the heart would never understand. Then you would be divided in yourself, the heart and the mind, and the war would be inside you.” –Dalai Lama

WOW! I believe that happens a lot to soldiers and many come back torn apart by their own internal struggle, the internal war they were fighting the whole time they were deployed.

May ever-growing numbers of people from around the world act with their hearts and minds in alignment for the good of all humanity, not just for those who happen to live on one side of a line on a map.

It is time to color outside the lines, to build bonds of friendship with people all over the world. To celebrate what we have in common rather than come up with reasons to fight and kill.

I believe that many of you are on the forefront of this transition. You have the power of the internet to project your heart-voices around the world and I love what you are doing to make my life and our world a better place.

Thank you for building bonds of friendship rather than bombs for enemies.

Love,
Russ

What One Does When They Do

When one falls down again and again
Getting back up is an important start
But it’s what one does when they do
That’s a better measure of their heart!

Gossip Machines

I try not to feed
Gossip Machines
As they are often
Untrue and mean

I can’t say I never fed them
Because that would be untrue
In my weaker moments I gossiped
Though I now work hard not to

Gossip Machines feel the need
To tear other folks down
But it’s the cruel act of a coward
If their victims aren’t around

So now when I talk about people
I attempt to follow a rule
I only share things about them
That are kind, helpful, and true.
