    How lovely and what a good voice, also he takes time for his patients and sings, that is rare. I can imagine the patients love him!

    Outstanding act on the part of the nurse and the proof in its effectiveness is that patients started asking for less medication…that says it all.

    Personal touch by any individual is always therapeutic. I worked a few years at a skilled nursing facility and there were two separate instances which moved me to tears. One was on Valentine’s Day, one of the patients had been in a vegetative state for a couple of years. But, on this special day her husband came to see her and spent several hours singing her beautiful love songs, caressing her and brushing her hair while he sang passionately to her. I have never seen anything quite so romantic as that.

    Another time, possibly Christmas, an Alzheimer patient who rarely showed any expression, was visited by her son. In the middle on the entrance right in front of the nurses station, he put on some music that she used to listen to and they danced, like they were in a grand ballroom. I had no idea that she was a dancer, so gracefully moving about the room. Her face was beaming and her eyes twinkled with happiness. It was like watching Cinderella dancing with the prince.

    It taught me a valuable lesson when dealing with the aged and infirmed…that the amount of life they have, is the amount of life we share with them. This nurse clearly gets that.
