A Surprise That Got Me In Hot Water With My Beloved

My recent “Holiday Humor” post received a bunch of comments, and below was my reply to one of the comments. I thought more of you would appreciate reading it than would see it in the comments section, so I decided to turn my reply into a post:

Yeah, I can see a hubby doing that (telling his wife he’s in a bar next to the jewelry store) AFTER buying the necklace but intentionally neglecting to mention it until he sees her in person…

Actually, now that I think about it, I sort of did that once. I was out buying a car as a surprise gift for My Beloved but the deal took a LOT longer to transact than I’d anticipated, so I called her a couple of times to keep postponing when I was going to be home “while being out with a friend”. I hadn’t lied; the friend was with me–but I’d left out the little detail about surprising her with a car.

By the time I got home it was VERY late, hours later than I’d originally planned, and she was STEAMING. I came in all sheepishly and told her that “something happened to your car” (it had; it got replaced by a much better one but she didn’t know it yet). At that point my life expectancy was probably about two minutes.

I somehow convinced her to go outside. There she saw her brand new car wrapped in a huge ribbon with a great big bow. On the steering wheel was a Teddy Bear and a bottle of Champagne.

It had been my turn to get a new car so she was very surprised when she got another new one before I got one.

The evening ended well…

That is a memory that will last a life time! What an ole softy you are! 😉 My husband did something similar but instead of a car I got a parakeet because I mentioned to him how much I liked the one I had when I was younger. One of these days I should write a story about that, my friends thought the story was cute…good idea for the up coming week, all I need to do now is remember it!! LOL
