“Follow your own heart, regardless of what others tell you to do. When all is said and done, it’s you who has to live with your decisions and how your heart feels about it.”
I don’t know who originated that quote but I believe much wisdom is contained in it. Not following your own heart seems like a recipe for resentment, regret, disallusionment, anger, sadness, and leading a less fulfilling life.
About russtowne
I'm awed by the beauty of nature and the power of love and gratitude. Some of my favorite sensory experiences include waves crashing on rocky shores, waterways in ancient redwood and fern-filled forests, and rain. My wife and I have been married since 1979. We have 3 adult children and 5 grandchildren. I manage a wealth management firm that I founded in 2003. My Beloved is a Special Education teacher for Kindergartners and First Graders. I'm a published author of approximately 60 books in a variety of genres for grownups and children.
So true, Russ. What is needed for this to ring true for many is to find a way to get back in touch with their heart, if they lost the connection to it, for whatever reason. I spent 25 years of my life living dispassionately, at least work-wise. Earlier in my life, I set aside my heart for survival’s sake, then lost where I placed it. It took me two and a half decades to find it, and now these truths are clear to me. However, they fell on deaf ears before. So, I pray that those who are disconnected from their heart find a way to reestablish the closeness to it they once experienced when they were full of life, perhaps from early childhood. I am forever grateful I found mine.
Thank you, charambavamwe and Dave. I have felt most fulfilled and most alive when I followed my dreams and passions. Those times when I wouldn’t let any excuse, any fear, any distraction, get between me and my dreams.
Dave: I’m glad that you have reconnected with what inspires you. May your adventure bring you all that you seek and lead you to greater inner peace. I wish that for everyone.
