Back Home & a Couple of Requests

I’m back home from our visit to our grandtwins that started on 7/19. We had a great time. If you sent an email to me since 7/19/14 and didn’t get a reply please re-send it as soon as possible or comment below. We were in four states in about ten days and I didn’t have a lot of time to correspond.

After a week of illness, the trip, and creating and sending quarterly letters to my wealth management Clients, my focus this month has not been on publishing Slices of Life the last scheduled anthology involving multiple writers. Now that I’m back home, no longer ill, and have sent all the quarterly letters, I’m putting substantial focus on getting more stories for Slices of Life so we can get it published as soon as possible. If you have any (more) non-fiction stories or know of writers of same whose stories you enjoy reading, I’d love to learn of them.

Specs for Slices of Life

I was just asked regarding the specs for stories for Slices of Life. I thought some of you might also be interested in my answer to that excellent question:

The primary specs are that they be stories and non-fiction. (So far, so good!)

The length is far less important to me than the quality of the content. I seek stories that connect readers to their hearts, spirits, and/or funny bones. Stories that remind them of the goodness and greatness in themselves and others. Celebrations of life, of miracles of all sizes. Stories that lift and help to heal. Examples of courage and perseverance. Stories that elicit tears of the healing or joyous kind. (I don’t ask for much, do I? ;-D! )

Slices of Life Update

Heart Whispers and Palpable Imaginings have been released and are available on Amazon. Slices of Life still needs more content. It has a lot of stories (a lot more than Palpable) but the stories are much shorter. Palpable has about 32,500 words and I’ve decided that 37,500 to 40,000 words would have been better as it is slightly on the thin side.

Slices currently has about 24,000 words. For some reason, good non-fiction stories are much harder to obtain and typically much shorter, so it is taking far longer than I imagined to publish Slices. Also, this month a key focus has been on writing and sending quarterly letters for my wealth management Clients. Each letter is unique to each Client’s portfolio and I have a substantial number of Clients, so it is a time-consuming endeavor. I get paid quarterly, and only after the letters go out, so it important to me that the first month of each quarter be largely devoted to that task. It is my hope and plan to put much more focus on Slices of Life in August once all the July activities are dealt with and now that Heart Whispers and Palpable Imaginings have been released.

It’s Almost Here!

I just sent the file for Palpable Imaginings to the printer. They’ll do a quick review of the format and content, and if they see no issues with either, they’ll send the layout they create of the electronic files of the book to me, most likely later today. If I like what I see, I’ll order the physical proof from the printer, also probably later today.

The physical proof usually arrives 5 to 10 days after I order it. IF I find nothing I want to change, I’ll OK it for release to Amazon.com and other outlets. Prior books I’ve approved have normally gotten released/listed for sale on Amazon.com the same night or next morning, so my best guess is Heart Whispers will be available to buy on July 10 or 11. The suggested retail price is $7.95, and Amazon.com often discounts from retail, so it could be available at an even better price.

Heart Whispers and Palpable Imaginings

The physical proof for my latest anthology compilation project titled Heart Whispers arrived today. I just reviewed and okayed it for release. Thank you to everyone who contributed their creations and/or are otherwise supporting this project!

Officially, the title should be listed on Amazon.com in the U.S. and UK 5-8 working days from now, but I’ve noticed with my first 8 books that partial listings with minimal descriptions are often available within 1-2 working days of the date I okay them, so they could be available for sale before July 4.

The first days’ sales are particularly important for sales rankings, and good sales rankings can greatly increase visibility to the book, so please keep this in mind if you’re thinking of buying the book, and please give it a review on Amazon.com if you do.
