Embracing the Present

“You can clutch the past so tightly to your chest that it leaves your arms too full to embrace the present.” (seen at the wonderful site I Stop For Suffering. http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/I-stop-for-suffering/263956387017672 ).

“It Was A Love Thing”

Here is a great example of kindness being love in action:

Teacher Danielle Caroll lost her ring but was pretty sure she knew which garbage truck it was in. She left a note on the truck about it and to her amazement, an employee of the NYC Parks Department named Gary Gaddist looked through tons of garbage and found her ring. He said he did it because he could see the couple were in love.

He added, “It was a love thing.”

It was a love thing. Yup. Kindness pretty much always is.

“Life is too short to waste any amount of time on wondering what other people think about you. In the first place, if they had better things going on in their lives, they wouldn’t have the time to sit around and talk about you. What’s important to me is not others’ opinions of me, but what’s important to me is my opinion of myself.”
C. Joybell C.

Understanding the power of your attitude toward yourself and views about yourself is vital. How you perceive yourself, how you talk about yourself, and how you represent yourself eventually become the reality for you. And if it happens that you’re putting yourself down, belittling your worth, and making light of your talents in the face of others, then you will come across as self-effacing, low in self-esteem, and almost a part of the wallpaper.

This isn’t humility, its self-denial and…

“Kindness Is Love In Action”

billgncs of http://bwthoughts.wordpress.com/ fame made a comment to one of my posts yesterday that I not only love, but I’ve pondered at length.

He said, “I think kindness is love in action.” I’ve shortened it to “Kindness is love in action” It is now one of my favorite sayings.

I believe there is much truth and wisdom in those 5 words.

That helps explain to me why I focus so much on kindness; the kindness of others and kindness I can show toward others.

Actions do indeed speak louder than words.

Thank you, Bill. As Rick told Louie at the end of one of my favorite movies, “I believe this could be the beginning of a beautiful friendship.”

A Humble Man Who Walked On The Moon Is Gone

Neil Armstrong, the first man to walk on the moon is gone. He died at age 82, leaving an amazing legacy. Goodbye, Mr. Armstrong.
Thank you for modeling modesty while achieving great things. May your next journey be even more awesome! See you on the flip side.

Being Old Has Its Advantages

I was at a restaurant with My Beloved on our Date Night yesterday, and got to order off the Seniors menu for the first time. I expected that along with lower prices, the portions would be smaller. I couldn’t have been more wrong.

I got a full turkey dinner with about 2/3’s of a pound of turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, gravy, mixed vegetables, split pea soup, bread, and a free large beverage (I chose milk) and dessert (I chose a wonderful ice cream called “Banana Split” that had all the ingredients of a banana split all combined into a single ice cream. It was YUMMY!).

The meal was quite inexpensive and delicious. There was so much food that I ended up taking most of it home, had it for lunch today, and there was still enough left over for My Beloved to have it for dinner.

I could get used to this being “old” thing. ;-D!

Here’s to Grandma’s Everywhere

“Grandma’s are mom’s with lots of frosting.” (As seen in a post at Zen and Genki’s blog honoring her Grandma. It was a wonderful tribute.)

Kindness To A Stranger May Save A Woman’s Life

Jennifer Vasilakos was at an intersection trying to raise $20,000 for a stem cell procedure she needs to help save her life because she suffers from kidney failure and does not qualify for a transplant. When a man stopped to ask her for directons, she did her best to guide him and gave him a pamphlet about her plight.

It turned out the man was Ty Warner the creator of Beanie Babies. He read the pamphlet and returned later telling her that she could stop trying to raise money because he would pay the $20,000 she needed for the procedure. He kept his promise.

I LOVE this story!
