It Does

My eyes don’t always get it right
And even my heart is sometimes wrong about love
So now I trust my spirit more than my heart or sight
Because when I don’t know the answers
To life’s toughest questions
It does.

I'm awed by the beauty of nature and the power of love and gratitude. Some of my favorite sensory experiences include waves crashing on rocky shores, waterways in ancient redwood and fern-filled forests, and rain. My wife and I have been married since 1979. We have 3 adult children and 5 grandchildren. I manage a wealth management firm that I founded in 2003. My Beloved is a Special Education teacher for Kindergartners and First Graders. I'm a published author of approximately 60 books in a variety of genres for grownups and children.

Hey Russ but you are on a roll… do you find some days they just jump onto the page by themselves or do you have to work at it..??

Hi, Bulldog. Sometimes they flow like waterfalls, gushing out so fast that I have to write furiously so I don’t miss anything. Other times they are like jigsaw puzzles intermixed with other jumbled jigsaw puzzles. In those situations, I see a lot of pieces with interesting attributes but have to to sort them out a piece at a time and see which ones fit for a specific poem, and which might be good for later ones. And sometimes, like last night, when I try to go to bed ideas begin to flow just as my head hits the pillow. I’ve learned that I might as well get up and write them down because I won’t be able to fall asleep until I do. The funny thing is that I often seem to have little or no control about what ideas spring to mind. Last night, for example, it was the phrase, “When life gives you lemons.” When life gives you lemons?!?!? Give me a break! I’m trying to sleep… Anyway, the lemons won. I hope to have the lemon poem done sometime later today after the markets close. (I’m an investment manager and advisor, and duty calls, especially when U.S. markets are open.)

By the way, I’ll bet that you have similar flows when it comes to photography. Probably some days things fall together well and you get a bunch of opportunities for good shots, and other days it’s a matter of hard work and slogging it out for every good shot.

      Russ
