“The Magic Of Belle Isle”

I recently was doing the Netflix equivalent of channel surfing when I came across a movie that I’d never heard of before called “The Magic of Belle Isle”. I wasn’t particularly intrigued by the name and was about to move on to the next possible movie when I noticed that Morgan Freeman starred in, and Rob Reiner directed, it. As I don’t recall seeing a bad movie that Morgan Freeman starred in, and I have enjoyed all or most of the movies Rob Reiner directed, I decided to give it 10-20 minutes to see if it might be worth finishing.

I was hooked within minutes. It is labeled a drama, but I laughed a lot too, and thoroughly enjoyed myself. Mr. Freeman was excellent as a bitter drunken wheelchair-bound ex-writer, and Virginia Madsen played a mother of three girls who is going through the final stages of a divorce. Her middle daughter “hires” the writer to help her to find and develop her imagination so she can become a writer herself. Along the way, a series of children’s stories involving an elephant and a mother mouse play an important role in a most unusual romance.

I highly recommend this move for those who enjoy “feel-good” movies. I love them; as I love this little treasure.

Cool! (That is a word that was popular when I went to high school 40 years ago and it has stuck with me all that time. We’re loyal to each other!)

(I’m so frugal I don’t even like to discard words. ;-D! That poor word probably earned its retirement many years ago…)
