A 17-year old boy who had recently beeen trained as a swimming pool lifeguard risked his own life to save a 12-year old boy from drowning in the ocean. He ended up getting a nearly $2600 bill from the hospital and ambulance service for his trouble.
But the resucuer was himself rescued by a couple of anonymous donors. I love a happy ending!

I think your reaction is the right one, Diana! It is good that many people tried to donate momey toward the bill. I think most people understand how unfair the bill wsa in the first place. If I recall correctly, something like $1,900 of the bill was for a 15 mile ambulance ride.

I would still help if I could but really…the guy saves someone and then gets nailed with bill….please!
There is a saying that is often accompanied by shaking one’s head and a sigh: “Only in America”, though I suspect that craziness of various kinds happens all over the world.

What a wonderful story! I too love a happy ending. While researching a few posts I am doing about acts of kindness, I saw a news story with footage filmed of a very kind deed done by a 12yr old boy who caught a fly-ball at a major league baseball game, but he decided to hand it over to a younger boy a couple of seats down who was crying over having just missed the ball. The camera helped the officials to find the good lad and they presented him with an autographed baseball bat, plus he ended up on the evening news. He plainly said that he knew it was just the right thing to do. I knew you’d like that story. Thank you Russ for sharing so many ‘good news’ stories!!
