For and Against

When I see news articles about people being against war, global warming, violence, poverty, drugs, crime, and many other things, I’m reminded of a brief story I heard about Mother Teresa. During the Vietnam War, anti-war protesters invited her to join a rally against the war. She politely declined, saying something to the effect that she’d learned that it was much better to be FOR something than AGAINST anything, and that she would have accepted their invitation if it had been to participate in a rally FOR peace. (Emphasis mine.)

I believe her viewpoint was about far more than mere symantics. Mother Teresa understood that one is much more likely to have a positve and open mind when being FOR something rather than AGAINST anything. I believe there is much power and wisdom in that concept, and I attempt to live my life accordingly.
