You’re a Beautiful
Memory
Long after
You’ve gone
Your memory
Brings
Hope
In the deepest
Depths of despair
Beauty
When ugly
Seems everywhere
Love
To transform apathy
Wisdom
To help my eyes to see
Light
That shines through darkest days
Direction
To help me find my way
Compassion
Of the warmest kind
Helps to ease
My troubled mind
Frees my soul
From tyranny
Your memory brings
Such gifts to me
Blessings
I rely upon
To
Stay
Alive
Long after
You’ve gone

About russtowne
I'm awed by the beauty of nature and the power of love and gratitude. Some of my favorite sensory experiences include waves crashing on rocky shores, waterways in ancient redwood and fern-filled forests, and rain. My wife and I have been married since 1979. We have 3 adult children and 5 grandchildren. I manage a wealth management firm that I founded in 2003. My Beloved is a Special Education teacher for Kindergartners and First Graders. I'm a published author of approximately 60 books in a variety of genres for grownups and children.
Touching. Pulls at my heartstrings. ❤
Thank you. A friend I hadn’t seen in decades said to me when we reconnected, “You’re a beautiful memory.” I liked that message so much that I used it as the title of the poem. The poem itself took on a life of its own (as my writings so often do) and ended up being quite different than what I’d originally conceived it to be.
And so it goes. Stories / poems go where they will, but isn’t that the best part? ❤
It is if they grow to completion. Some creative seeds begin well but whither, eventually fading away to incompletion.
Sigh. 🙂

See my poem “HEART THROB.” I do understand. 🙂
Thank you, Jonathan. I did, and commented.
what a beautiful poem, russ. what a lovely way to remember someone in a positive way. )
Thank you, Beth. My memories can be whatever I allow them to be. Much like life.
How amazing that we can leave such imprints on others. And others do the same for us.
Yes. My heart is made fuller by such imprints.
I really liked this one, Russ.
Thank you, Mrs. P. It has been too long since a poem began to grow inside me. I plan to listen more carefully to the whispers of my heart.
😀 I am happy to hear that!
This is beautiful Russ. Is it in memory of your parent(s)? ❤

Thank you, Diana. Actually it’s about no one in particular but all my loved ones in general. I intentionally left it unspecific so readers could envision whatever came to their mind.
Bloody great and so touching
Thank you, Joanne. I’m glad it touched you.
This is a great poem Russ… not sure what made it happen, but beautiful
Thank you, bulldog. There isn’t much of a backstory to it. When I recently re-connected from someone I knew in high school, they they said to me, “You’re a beautiful memory.” I liked the phrase so much that I turned it into this poem.
Great
So beautiful! Russ, you are at your best!
Thank you, Ute!
I love this poem. It has a ‘grateful’ feel to it. Reminds me of our last meeting. So good to see you, a friend from so long ago.
