I just read the following and hope it is true:
AS OF TUESDAY , DEC 4, A BILL HAS BEEN PASSED BY THE US HOUSE AND SENATE THAT DECLARES THAT OUR MILITARY WORKING DOGS OF ALL BREEDS WILL NO LONGER BE CLASSIFIED AS “MILITARY EQUIPMENT” TO BE LEFT BEHIND IN FOREIGN LANDS…BUT AS MILITARY VETERANS. THESE DOGS NOW WILL BE RETURNING TO LACKLAND AFB , FOR THEIR SERVICES AS US HEROES. THEY WILL BE EVALUATED, AND RETRAINED AND RE-HOMED IF NEEDED

That is positively great news! It is actually heartbreaking to think these loyal animals were ever classed as “equipment”. I am a huge animal lover and it is actually unimaginable to me that they ever were left abandoned in a foreign country. :0(( On the flip side, I love that in this crazy world there is love and light and good people working for peace and that someone took the time to recognize the fact that these furry friends are heros. Thank you for taking the time to comment. I too am an animal lover and it does my heart good to learn that our furry friends are going to be welcomed home. I’ve often thought that it was cruel that the human-dog partnerships that forged such tight bonds would be torn apart when it was time for the human to return home.

That is good news… such value to the troops being left behind… can’t believe it…
It had also been cruel to the soldiers who felt they had to leave beloved comrades behind when they came home.

I so agree. Our medal-winning hero dog, Gabe, recently came home from 13 months in Iraq sniffing out mines – over 200 missions – here to So. Fla. now he and his handler will go speaking tours. Gabe isn’t equipment!!
It was LONG overdue! This should have never been a policy to begin with, talk about wasteful spending – the time and money spent on these magnificent animals – only to leave them behind in a war torn country. Makes me sick to think of the dis service that has been done to these life savers in the past. We were traitors to their loyalty, drive, dedication and love.
Who ever it was that fought this battle for those dogs, I stand and applaud your efforts and the victory. May God Bless you. In memory of those left behind……
