This poem is dedicated to all who are weary and craving sleep. May you soon enjoy blessed slumber!

The Race
Moving in slow motion
Barely able to think at all
Vision is getting fuzzy
Movements slowing to a crawl
Forgot to turn on the porch light
Struggle to fit my key into the lock
Mutter under my breath
As I fumble in the dark
It’s going to be a slow-motion race
As I stagger through the door
For my head to hit my pillow
Before my face hits the floor.

About russtowne
I'm awed by the beauty of nature and the power of love and gratitude. Some of my favorite sensory experiences include waves crashing on rocky shores, waterways in ancient redwood and fern-filled forests, and rain. My wife and I have been married since 1979. We have 3 adult children and 5 grandchildren. I manage a wealth management firm that I founded in 2003. My Beloved is a Special Education teacher for Kindergartners and First Graders. I'm a published author of approximately 60 books in a variety of genres for grownups and children.
I love it
Thank you, Boomie.

Sleep….I love that word.
I appreciate your comment. Our 9 month old grandson has “slept” over at our house the last two nights. He’s a great kid, though none of us got as much sleep as we’re used to or need. It reminded me as to how sleep-deprived I’d been with our three babies. I feel for our son and and DIL.

I love it, too, Russ. Maybe lyrics for a song?
Thank you, Cathy. Perhaps it will become a song some day if I add more to the story. I appreciate your suggestions.

Awesome! So true, as any insomniac knows, and thanks for the laugh your last line brought!
Cheers, Gina
