Did You Know?

One of my recent posts was titled “Last Dance”. Did you know that it was about two leaves falling to the ground in Autumn? If not, did you wonder what I meant by the last line? Was my poem too subtle? I ask these questions due to the fewer-than-normal comments and likes to it. I’m attempting to find out if readers simply didn’t like it, didn’t understand it, or hadn’t seen it.

Thank you in advance for whatever feedback you can provide regarding it.

It is a lovely poem Russ, but I can understand your concern. While I have written poems about autumn that were a similar play on words, I found it better (for me) to make it easy on readers by including the words Autumn or Fall in the title. What about calling it The Last Fall Dance? Just a thought from a fan and a friend! hugs ~ Gina

  2. Well, I’m glad you let me know it was here – I had missed it. And it’s lovely. I’d almost hate for you to make it too obvious, as that’s the beauty of poetic meanings (though I acknowledge that readers can be lazy sometimes & in need of clues).

Thank you for your comment. I sometimes like to provide hints in the imagery without being too obvious. But I can see that it is a balancing act. Too subtle and it doesn’t work for most readers. Too clear and it loses it’s mystique. I appreciate your input.

  3. Russ I did not know it was about leaves …I must admit…I thought it was about people …but at times it didn’t seem so…I guess I missed it. When I re-read it now I see what you were saying…Diane

Sorry I missed the first post, not sure how that happened…but since I now know it was about leaves I saw the beauty in what you wrote. It is a lovely poem and I am not sure how I would have read it originally. But the words and description of the fall leaves just flow…nicely done.
