Some Contests I Could Really Get Into

On our Date Night this evening My Beloved and I were eating dinner at a restaurant that I’d never been to before. I noticed across the way that other tables each had a huge (perhaps quart- or liter-size) coffee cup on them with various sayings. That is when I noticed that one was on our table too. It read:

“The one who smiles first wins!”

That fun saying and excellent motto or affirmation reminded me of something I read on someone’s blog recently. I think it was a poem. Part of it red something to the effect that,

“Instead of having a Tug of War
I want to have a Hug Of War”

(I forget the rest, except the last line(s) went something like):

“In a Hug O’War
There are no losers
And everyone wins!”

I like that ‘contest’ too, though I might be tempted to re-name it a “Hug Of Peace”.

  1. That sounds like Shel Silverstein’s poem from A Light in the Attic. I LOVED that poetry book as a child and would memorize all of the poems. I still have it today, it’s tattered and barely held together. I found one of my son’s reading it the other day and it brought such joy to me. I hope my kids end up loving it as much as me. πŸ™‚ Thanks for sharing! This inspires me!
