Doing Your Best

My first “Two-Fer”! This re-blog starts with an image that GinaV had on her blog Professions For P.E.A.C.E. (one of my favorites in the whole blogosphere!) and I found Jan Beek’s “Loving One Another” blog via GinaV’s blog too. I relaly liked Jan’s blog and wanted to share it with you. (Sorry, Gina, you’re going to end up seeing it at least twice!)

Parents As Teachers

In today’s COVID-19 world, a lot of parents world-wide have become their child’s primary teacher. Even though many of the students have access to on-line classes, still parents discover they must oversee the learning process. Most parents are not prepared for this role. Are you one of them who sometimes feels overwhelmed by it??

You’re not alone! Many parents who are on this “Stay at Home” routine find themselves thrust into a much more intense teacher role than they ever bargained for. Your time spent with your child/student during this time is precious. You’re making life-long memories. Make them happy ones!

I am a retired educator. I spent more than two decades as an elementary teacher and administrator. During that time, I had the opportunity to experience first-hand how the expectations of others affects our self-evaluations. Our…

  1. I created two posters to convey my classroom norms. On says “Respect,” the other, “Do Your Best.” These capture the essence of what I want students to learn in my classroom, even if they cannot excel with the content. I plan to blog about each of those soon.

Hope all is well, my friend.

Hi, Dave. I believe that the world becomes a better place whenever even one person shifts their attitude toward showing respect for others, so I’m happy that you are sharing that idea with whole classrooms of high schoolers. And because students learn at different speeds and in different ways, I think it is wise of you to inspire each of them to focus on doing their best whatever that may be for them individually. Thank you for being there for your students!

Thank you, Gina. I have very selfish motives. The more love that is spread around, the better my world becomes. It one of those relatively few things in life where there iis a whole lot of upside and no downside (along with smiling at others, being kind, forgiving, and improving my attitude.) Thank you for making my world better with every post you share.

That is so well put! I like how you say ‘the better my world becomes’. Brilliant. And it reminds me of Emerson’s lovely quote that ‘Happiness is a perfume; you cannot pour it on others without getting a few drops on yourself.’ Even though I don’t wear perfume I adore his use of it in this analogy. Let’s share the kindness and happiness and allow it to spill back on us in the process! Your friend, Gina

  4. I completely “respect” this post – wonderful!
